Saxton & Kohler and Weguelin & Ainsworth
make strong starts at the Palamós Xmas Race
Peter Saxton writes from the Olympic Classes’ Christmas
Race: “The first day of racing at Palamós in
northern Spain saw one race completed for the 470 fleet. The offshore breeze was very shifty,
resulting in a delayed launch and further waiting on the water as the course
was re-laid. With an air temperature of
about 8 degrees, it may have been warmer than the UK, but the hanging around on
the water was pretty cold.
“After multiple start attempts the men’s fleet of 54 boats
from 16 countries eventually got away in a 10 knot breeze, gusting to 15 but
with lulls as low as 7 knots. By the
finish, Ben Saxton & David Kohler were second, having held the lead for a
time, with Matt Mee & Ian Dobson 4th.
Phil Sparks & Chris Grube finished 17th after recovering well from a
poor first beat”.
This seems to miss our women! Sophie Weguelin & Sophie
Ainsworth were third in this first race. See Event Website for results etc.
