Close scoring at the top of
the Fleet at first Selector
At the first Selector of the three-event series and the
Weymouth Open, forty-five boats competed in the open event.
Phil Sparks & Ben Gratton held the lead from Day 1, finishing just one
point ahead of Matt Rainback & Simon Foskett, in turn just a couple of
points ahead of Ben Palmer & Konrad Weaver. With the same order and close
points among the leading boats in the Selection Series, it is evident that we
are in for an exciting series!
Imogen and Hermione Stanley shot up the leader board from Saturday, with a 1st
in the first race on Sunday, to complete the event as leading women in 5th
overall, with Joanna Freeman & Hannah Mitchell just a point behind in 6th.
Stephen Tiernan & Dermott McMorrough held their overnight position as 4th
overall and leading Irish boat. Although under some pressure from Rob Lehane
& Iarlaith Kennedy on the Sunday, Lehane & Kennedy found themselves BFD
in the last race and finished the event in 12th overall, behind Tim O Laoire
& Brian Kennedy in 10th.
Results for Weymouth Open and for Selection Series so far. The Fleet moves to Scotland for
Selector II at Largs on 4/5 April, with the RYA Youth Championships there from
12 to 17 April.
