Anyone looking for a sailor?....to sail a 420 with!
Newcomers to 420s sometimes want to find an opportunity to sail in the boat before committing to it and finding a sailing partner. Changes in existing 420 partnerships can occur from time to time. At any time; both aspiring and more experienced sailors can be on the look out for someone to sail with.
Some want a helm or a crew for a
particular event, some are looking for someone to do the Youths, or the
Selectors, or maybe to do a Class Training event with. Some have a boat, or
access to a boat, and some don’t. Everyone is different.
Sometimes sailors advertise on the
“Partnerships” section of the Small Ads; some prefer to "ask around",
but may not be sure who to ask!
In 2009, a new initiative was taken to organise some special training for new 420 sailors when some sailors were able to pair up at the event. The Training Officer, Andy Foskett has offered to try and make similar arrangements at future training events, and we hope that similar, more informal events will be organised in the future.
Carla Stanley, Andy Foskett and Tony Mapplebeck try to
keep in touch about who is around, who is looking and who is “coming” in to the
Class (sometimes still campaigning in their Junior Class, but wanting to plan a
transition). We also hear from time to time about sailors who are interested in
a one-ff event – these can include more experienced 420 sailors who can be
useful to provide additional experience, without the “strings” of a longer-term
partnership.
We are happy to help - but we can
only make suggestions if we know you are looking! We cannot promise to
be able to help, these things have to be arranged privately in the end. But we
are happy to help if we can.
