"Future of British sailing identified as RYA selects Youth Worlds Team" - RYA Report on Youth Champs
..great battle all week in the 420 class both for (both) slots in the team. Winning half the races in the series Welsh sailors Tom Mallindine and James Clark from Corus SC ended the week on half the points as nearest rivals Richard Mason and Dan Schieber from Royal Lymington YC, to not only win the national title but also their places in the Youth Worlds Team. Mallindine summed up his thoughts, It was great to win the event. We believed we could and just concentrated on sailing well all week. We were hoping for some light winds to come but when they didnt we just concentrated on our boat and waited for other people to make the mistakes..... First to admit that they would have preferred lighter conditions were fellow Welsh 420 sailors Hannah Mills and Peggy Webster. Despite the conditions, they put in a good performance, winning two of the races, to finish 8th overall and 1st girls in front of 11th placed Maria Stanley & Catherine Alton from Oxford SC.'

Youth Champions: Tom Mallindine & James Clark; women: Hannah Mills & Peggy Webster. A Welsh double! Llongyfarchiadau! Arddrerchog! Awesome!!
We await full report from RYA Team GBR Comms Supremo (and Prizegiving & Selectors), but the provis. results say: Tom & James took the 2005 RYA 420 Youth Champs and Hannnah & Peggy lead the "girls". Many congratulations to them and to all sailors. Seeing those pics and reading the reports, it seems that the weather, the Firth of Clyde and the PRO conspired to give you a very challenging and exciting Championships. More follows.....Prizegiving at 19.00....party!

We have Provisional Final Results...woop!!...more following.

Best wishes to all the 420 Fleet for the final day at Largs

Wild and windy on penultimate day of RYA Youth Championships - RYAs Day 4 Report
Selection for the Youth Worlds was also on the forefront of many sailors minds in the 420 fleet. Female sailors Hannah Mills and Peggy Webster got off to a great start in far from their ideal conditions and managed to establish a good lead on the fleet before capsizing, which dropped them down to 34th. Their persistence paid off and they continue to lead the girls fleet from Maria Stanley and Catherine Alton from Oxford Sailing Club.

In the boys fleet, Fynn Sterritt and Matthew Day from Loch Morlich Sailing Club excelled in the windy conditions and scored their first race win of the week. Overall leaders Tom Malindine and James Clark from Corus Sailing Club managed a fifth place which they discarded, and continue to lead the fleet by eleven points from Richard Mason and Dan Schieber from Royal Lymington Yacht Club. Tomorrow will see all three of these teams locked in battle to try and win their seat on the plane to Korea.

More wind & building on Day 4: One race: Provisional Results
"Windy day. Got racing underway on time as (we) knew forecast would build quickly. Built to 30 knots. Hannah Mills led race but capsized which dropped her back. Plenty of capsizes today!", says Sacha Oswald. More when we have it....

Royal eyes watch over the fleet on third day of RYA Youth Championships
Day 3 RYA Press Report: Hot from the Press again (we beat Y&Y by 12 hours yesterday!) - Ta. Sacha!

"Very windy" Day 3 sees Mallindine/Clark take 2 more wins!
RYA PR supremo, Sacha says: "Very windy day. 18-20 knots. Squalls that flattened fleets of 35 knots. Royal visit in the morning ...". Stop press, provisional results attached - again you see them first here!

So M&C extend their lead and Richard and Dan are looking strong. But see these Loch Morlich sailors, Fynn & Matthew up to third! ...hey, guys, watch out for Tom & James with their next discard!

.and things are shaping up with the women.Hannah & Peggy (1), Maria Stanley & Catherine Alton (2) and Claire and Clare (3).at the moment!

Perfect sailing conditions on second day of RYA Youth Championships
"Despite a grey dawn and lack of breeze the beauty of Largs shone through and the competitors went afloat under blue sky and with 12-16 knots of breeze blowing, allowing all of the fleets to complete their days schedule of races."

"After a further three races in the 420 class, there was no change at the top, although plenty of positions swapping further down the fleet. Tom Malindine and James Clark from Corus Sailing Club managed to maintain consistency in the 48 boat fleet. Winning two out of the three races, the pairing continue to lead the fleet going into the third day of racing. A good day for Richard Mason and Dan Schieber from the Royal Lymington Yacht Club saw them jump up the fleet into second place overall in front of third placed, and first girls pairing, Hannah Mills and Peggy Webster from Corus Margam Sailing Club." .....Sacha's full story links here.

PS HRH The Princess Royal, RYA President will be on site in the morning to meet the sailors and go on the water.

Day 2: Mallindine/Clark hold lead, but Mason/Schieber romp up as discard kicks in
Hannah & Peggy and James & Dan Ellis on equal points in 3rd & 4th. You saw it first here! Woop for on-site RYA Communications Officer!

News from the RYA Youth Championships in Largs

Selector 1
The first selection regatta was sailed at Portland on the Easter weekend, with all six races completed. Tom Mallindine & James Clark won the event and lead the selection series. 14 more races to go, next stop Mumbles. Click here for a full report and results.

Mumbles Selector - Travel & Accommodation.
The Mumbles Selector is the same weekend as the semi-finals of the FA Cup, which are in Cardiff. Firstly there are potential traffic delays on the M4 around Cardiff, how it affects 420 sailors depends on the times of the games etc. Secondly, 420 sailors need to get their accommodation booked - if they have not done so yet. The issue here is that there isn't enough accommodation in Cardiff, and football fans usually end up staying in Swansea and Mumbles - which can put pressure on accommodation. The football fans (Man U, Arsenal, Blackburn and Newcastle) won't have worked this out yet, so 420 sailors have a head start!

Press, PR and Sponsorship
The class needs a volunteer to assist with its press relations, PR, and searching out sponsors. If you can do any of this, or would simply like to find out more, please contact Catherine Dodds.
