420 Class Open Training & Sailing Days: Hayling: 24 & 25 September 
This weekend will be attended by coaches and RYA Selectors as part of the process for inviting participation in RYA Transitional Training. You need to be applying for this Class Training event urgently. Cost only �30.

You are also reminded that this year�s Open Autumn Training Camp at half term at Rutland is from 24 to 28 October. On the basis of previous experience, do not leave it to the last minute to apply! The residential accommodation has been oversubscribed in recent years.

Our sailors do good at 470 Worlds in San Francisco 
2000 Ladies� World 420 Champion, Christina Bassadone & Saskia Clark and Nick Rogers & Joe Clanfield (former 420 ISAF Youth Silver medallist) both took Silver in the 470 Worlds last week - Christina on equal points with the Champions! Former 420 National Champions, Nic Asher & Elliott Willis took 6th and former ISAF Youth 420 Bronze medallist, Pippa Wilson, with Sheena Craig, took 7th in the Ladies� Championship.

420 sailors do it at Youth Match Racing Champs.....again 
Ian Dobson took 2nd place to one-time 420 sailor, Simon Wheeler�s team in the last race of the weekend at the RYA Youth Match Racing Championships in Portland Harbour on Bank Holiday Monday,

Simon Wheeler�s victorious team included Tristan Jaques (who took 10th with Jonny McGovern at the 420 Nationals last week), Sam Pearson and Robbie Allam. Ian Dobson, in his first MR Champs, lead a crew of Andy Tunnicliffe, Nikki Birrell, Mary Rook & Christian Birrell. In 3rd place, Richard Mason�s team were Charlotte Lawrence, Georgie Blaver-Mann, Dan Schieber & Elliott Parsons. Ben Ainsworth led the 4th team, with Jo Brigg, Hannah Mills, Peggy Webster & James Wade. The other helms in the competition included: Guy Brearey, Ed Powys & Oli Dix, all recruiting 420 sailors to their teams.

31 of the 40 sailors competing are current members of the 420 Class. The top two teams are invited to the National MR Champs and other teams may enter the remaining qualifiers; Simon Wheeler is invited to compete in New Zealand..

Burge & Evans National Champions; Mills & Webster Ladies Champions 
At the end of a largely "stunning week's sailing at WPNSA, Matt Burge & Chris Evans (Poole YC), who had led the Championships most of the way - but after strong challenges on the last day from Tom Mallindine & James Clark (2nd overall - Corus SC), Ally Martin & Ian Dobson (3rd - Burghfield SC) and, especially Ed Powys & Will Morgan (4th = Restronguet SC), were crowned 2005 National Champions. Richard Mason were 5th (R Lymington YC ); James & Dan Ellis 6th (R Plymouth CYC). Hannah & Peggy (Corus SC), the Ladies Champions, were 7th overall.

Steve Bell of fotoboat was here on Tuesday (the Struckett RIB), took 400 pics and will have these on the www.fotoboat.com website soon
Paul Wyeth (the black RIB) was here on Tuesday and again on Thursday for the first two races � came off excited with �stunning conditions � lots of spray�. He will be there after sailing/before the Prizegiving on Friday. Photos will also appear on his website next week.

Mason & Schieber take silver at 2005 Junior Europeans 
Another exciting day at Lake Garda to bring this excellent Championships to a conclusion. The Rahier brothers (FRA) took the title, but Richard Mason & Daniel Schieber came 2nd, just 2 points behind the leaders and on equal points with, but leading on countback from, Kenneth Rumball & David Moran (IRL). They were 1 point ahead of another French team in 4th, with our Tom Mallindine & James Clark in 5th. Hannah Mills and Peggy Webster took the Ladies� title in 7th place overall. Ed Powys & Will Morgan were 11th, James Goss & Elliott Parsons 12th, Tom Makey & James Wade 18th and the Ellis brothers 21st, all in the 54 strong Gold Fleet. A big woop for TeamGBB and, especial congratulations to Richard & Daniel!

Fraglia della Vela seem to have recruited Mark Rushall as special correspondent today, so his report is attached. The Final Results are posted on our Results page.

Going to Uni? You need Team Racing training 
Are you going to Uni this year? Do you want to join your University Sailing Club and continue sailing? Then you will need to learn, or brush up on, your team racing skills. Most Universities hold selection trials early in the first term, so, if you want a head start, this training will be invaluable.

The RYA is organizing 2-day training sessions in early September at West Kirby in the North and Spinnaker in the South in early September to give you some of the skills necessary for team racing. Attached are the training dates, plus an application form. �Kick start� your year by booking now!

Maria Stanley & Catherine Alton win bronze at the 420 Worlds 
The Italians, Maria Turizio & Maria Rendano lengthened their lead to 33 points over the ISAF Youth Champions, Lumeau & Bossaard of France, to be crowned Ladies Champions 2005. But our women have done it again! � 3 teams in the top ten. Maria & Catherine, with two good results today, overtook Jo Brigg & Mary Rook, to take 3rd place. Jo Macdonald & Laurie Marsden finished 8th. The 420 Open Champions 2005 are Tomas O.Da. Sylva & Francisco Gomes of Portugal. Ally Martin & Ian Dobson finished in 16th place. In the Silver Fleet, James & Dan Ellis were 4th, with Niki & Christian Birrell just 5 points behind.
